Pudding
Pudding in the Asian style is a lighter affair than the British kind — silky cups of mango and lychee, wobbling jellies with coconut gel, and sweet soups — and this collection stocks both the ready-to-eat cups and the powders for making your own.
The Cocon pudding cups are the everyday favourites: mango, lychee and strawberry, each studded with chewy nata de coco pieces, in singles and family packs. They are the sort of pudding that works straight from the fridge after dinner, in lunchboxes, or — frozen for an hour — as a granita-ish treat. Jelly shots with real fruit juice cover the party bowl.
For making your own, the pudding powders in taro and lychee set into smooth, fragrant puddings with nothing but milk or water, and almond dessert mix does the same for the Cantonese classic. Water chestnut starch is the traditional thickener behind the translucent, glossy puddings of dim sum restaurants, and dried lotus seeds are the starting point for sweet Cantonese soups.
Most of these keep for months in the cupboard and chill when needed, which makes them the easiest puddings to keep on standby. Everything is delivered UK-wide from our Manchester store, with free delivery on orders over £75. The assorted pack is the one to try first.
